Hyde Park will welcome the world’s best triathletes for one of the most exciting and high-profile events at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The Triathlon competitions at the 2012 Summer Olympics, in London, are scheduled to be held in Hyde Park. The women’s is scheduled for Saturday 4 August and the men’s for Tuesday 7 August. A total of 110 athletes, 55 men and 55 women, are expected to take part.

Triathlon is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world, and the London 2012 competition in Hyde Park promises to draw large enthusiastic crowds.

The women’s event takes place on Saturday 4 August, with the men’s following on Tuesday 7 August.

Triathlon races combine swimming, cycling and running, with events conducted over a variety of distances. At London 2012, the men’s and women’s Triathlons will consist of a 1500m swim, a 43km bike ride and a 10km run. The transitions between the swim, the bike and the run are part of the race – crucial seconds can be gained or lost in the transition area.

The competition will see 55 men and 55 women battle for a medal across the three disciplines.

All entries for Triathlon will be confirmed following the sport entries deadline on 9 July 2012
